Care Requirements

Care Requirements:
Lighting: Moderate to strong lighting is essential. High PAR options like T5s or high-end LEDs (around 100-150 PAR) are suitable. Gradually acclimate the coral to higher light levels.

Water Flow: Birdsnest need high flow for nutrient uptake and waste removal.

Water Parameters:
Calcium: 350-450 ppm Nitrates: 1-10 ppm
Alkalinity: 8-12dKH Phosphates: 0.03-0.07
Magnesium: 1350-1450 Temperature: 74°F - 80°F (23°C - 27°C)
Salinity/Specific Gravity: 1.024 - 1.026

Nutrition

Nutrition:
Coral health relies heavily on amino acids, which are vital components of proteins and have important roles in neurotransmitter transport and biosynthesis. The specific amino acids required by your SPS will vary depending on the species you have. Fortunately, there are commercially available amino acid supplements that can provide these essential compounds. When it comes to feeding your Birdsnest, it is recommended to include small zooplankton such as rotifers and cyclops plankton. Since Birdsnest have small polyps, it is best to aim for food particles between 0.5 and 2 mm in size. Additionally, having a higher volume of fish in your reef tank can have a positive impact on the growth of Birdsnest colonies. While lighting contributes to about 85% of their nutrition, targeted feeding provides corals with extra nutrients for growth and vibrant coloration. However, it is important to avoid overfeeding in order to maintain water quality.

Propagation Tips

Propagation:
To propagate this coral, it is best to use bone cutting snips. Place freshly cut frags in the middle or bottom of a mature tank with high flow, not directly on them as to damage tissue. When gluing to plug, use a towel to dry off the underside and use a reef safe putty to secure the frag to allow glue to bond both the putty and plug.
